4. Dashboards

A dashboard is a collection of several worksheets that you have previously created in your workbook. The dashboard displays all of the worksheets in a single place so different data can be compared simultaneously.

To create a new dashboard, click the icon next to new worksheet. Our dashboard is going to include the map, side by side and tree map worksheets that we previously created.

On the bottom left corner, click on Size to change the Dashboard size to be exactly 1000w by 900h.

In the Dashboard pane, select the Immigrant Adoptions and drag it to the top of the dashboard pane.

Drag the Immigration 2013-14 to the bottom left corner and the Citizens by State to the bottom right, as shown in the image below.

Remove the legend for the immigrant adoptions by clicking on the x at the top right corner of the Im Or ad 2013 Total box.

Change the title for each sheet by clicking on it. Add a title to the Dashboard: Immigration, Race & Adoptions.

Creating an action

We want our three elements in our dashboard to be synchronized so when a user clicks on a state in the map, the other two graphics only display the records associated with that state. To do that, in the top menu, go to Dashboard - Actions...

In the window that appears, check the Add Action button and select Highlight. Select Immigrant Adoptions as the only source sheet and the Citizens by State and Immigration 2013-2014 as the target sheets.

For Run action on, click the Select option. Click OK in both windows.

Now select a state in the map. Notice how the other two graphics only highlight the state that you selected.
