Time to bring everything together. Let’s build our firstdashboard. At the top, go to Dashboard -> new Dashboard. This brings up anew screen with a list of all worksheets and a few other options. First, let’s change the dashboard size, from a fixed size toautomatic. 9.1. Addthe map and the chemical list table. Notice all of the worksheets we've created are shown on the left side of the screen. Let’s drag our map to the middle of the screen:Let’s also add that chemical list to the left side of thescreen:
9.2. ActionsNow we can do something really cool – we’ll add an Action that allows us to click on a chemical in the table, and only show facilities that release that chemical on the map We'll add an action, so that if you click a chemicalon the table, the map only shows the facilities that release that specificchemical. Go to Dashboard -> Actions… We want to add a Filter action: Here, I’m naming the action “Select facilities by chemical”.I want to run the action on select, when I select from the Chemical tablesheet. I want to target all sheets, and show all values of the chemical Iselect. When all that is set up, click okay and try selecting achemical on the table: So, clicking a chemical filters the facilities shown on the map to only those emitting the selected chemical. (To deselect a chemical, just click on the "Chemical" header at the top of the table). 9.3. We’remissing an important piece of information, though. Which industries emit what?And at what intensity?Let’s make one final worksheet to get at this data. Create anew worksheet. Let’s build a tree map this time. Put our “Total releases”Measure on Mark Size and Industry group Dimension on mark label: Here, the area of each square is proportional to thatindustry’s total releases. Now, let’s add color. Add another total releases tocolor, but switch it to an AVG. Let’s also add total releases to label, and configure that abit more. (edit label by left-clicking to add some detail) Finally, let’s add the tree map to our dashboard, below thechemical list: |
